SavoireISoV
FROM THE CAL FORUMS
http://forums.caleague.com/showthread.php?p=3182774#post3182774 "For my friend alex. Keep him in your thoughts guys. He has been a member of SoV for three years and one of my good friends. Let's hope this all turns around for the best. Greetings to you all, I'd like to write to you in better circumstances... but sadly, I'm writing to you today to deliver some unfortunate news. On the night of monday and tuesday (June 11th and 12th), our friend Alexandre (Alex for some and Savoire for others), was the victim of a car accident not so far from home. He suffered a broken thumb, a broken femur on his right leg and an open fracture on his left tibia. Alex was immediately sent to the city hospital, and had to be transfered a few hours later to the Amos Hospital (about 100Kms from home) to treat his injuries. When he got there, he was conscious and was even telling jokes to the doctors and nurses on site. He also had the chance to speak with his parents, who followed him there. He didn't remember the accident, but was in a lucid state and understood what was happening. The first scanner results didn't reveal any injury to his torso or to his head, so no vital organ was affected as a result of the accident. The doctors then proceeded with the surgery, and had to get two blood transfusions since he had lost a lot. Prior to the surgery, Alex had some difficulties breathing, and the doctors dedcided to intubate him. As the doctors were performing surgery on him, they noticed that something wasn't right with his blood, so they had to stop the procedure, only managing to fix his open fracture. The problem was that the blood wasn't filtered properly because his kidneys had trouble fuctionning normally. His lungs weren't up to the task either. We are no experts in medecine, but it seems like his open fracture caused some osseous marrow to enter his blood vessels and contaminate his blood, causing a pulmonary embolism, ie. a blood clot in the lungs, blocking the passage of oxygen. This also caused his heart rate to be abnormally high. On Wednesday morning, the news was good... his kidneys were back online, the lungs got rid of the blood clots and the pulse was slowing down. However, some liquid had accumulated in his head and neck, which creates a lot of pressure that the brain can't handle for an extended period of time. The liquid can occur in the head following a trauma like the one Alex suffered. At the time of this writing (Wed June 13th at 8:00PM), Alex is currently fighting for his life. At 1:00PM this afternoon, the doctor was quite honest with Alex's parents and me. He told us that the situation was worrying him, but that we had to wait for another 24 hours to get a better assesment of his state. They raised his bed by 30 degrees to help the liquid get out of his head, and they are giving him sugars shots near his head so it can absorb the liquid and diminish the pressure. The doctors have done everything they can do, and now all faith remains in Alex's determination to struggle for his life. He needs to get rid of this pressure which could damage his brain. If he manages to do it and all his vital organs remain in a stable state, he has a good chance to survive. However, if the liquid fails to drain, he will slowly sink into a coma, followed by brain death. For those who want any information on the accident : Alex was going back home after we went downtown to eat a little midnight snack. A pick-up truck was leaving a house to get on the road, and didn't see Alex's car. Alex tried to avoid it by taking the left lane, but the truck driver never noticed anything and didn't stop, hence Alex crashed right into it at high speed (It was a 90km/h speed limit road). Judging by his injuries, Alex's car probably made a few barrel-rolls before before standing still. We haven't seen the car yet, but probably will in a few days. Thus I will act as the family's spokesman to thank all of you who have already sent in your support and sympathy to Alex, his family and friends. We are currently in a very difficult moment, and your support is more than welcome. So please send all your thoughts to Alex, because he really needs them. If you want to get further news or send some support letters which we will print and give to him and his parents, I would ask you to send an email to the following adress : martinlandry77@hotmail.com, since I am wrting this first email from Alex's Address because it was the best way to get a hold of his many contacts. And since we can't be sure that we managed to get in touch with all of his buddies, please forward this message to any friend who may not be aware of the situation. Thank you very much. Martin (Alex's friend)" THIS MORNING: "OMG guys..... I just got terrible news.... Alex has passed away this morning. I have no more words to say right now" 1 Comments
